Video is not supported in your browserThe Kettlebell Snatch 1 An aggressive backswing. I cue this as if you’re “hiking” the kettlebell back like a long snapper. I use my free arm to encourage an active pull, and focus on keeping my back long. 2 As I come through the power is coming from my hips rather than my shoulders. My right arm starts to engage to keep the kettlebell close to my body. This is sometimes referred to as “taming the arc”. 3 As the bell reaches shoulder height my arm is flexed and hips are fully extended. All upward movement from this point on is purely momentum generated from the first part of the movement (essentially a single arm kettlebell swing). 4 Just before the catch position at the top my right arm extends to meet the kettlebell. This avoids those nasty bruises that come with letting the weight crash into your wrist. 5 The catch position shows full extension from hand to heel. My right arm is in line with my ear, and I’m tall. Abs are on and ribs are down, as I don’t want to arch my back excessively.* This article was originally published here
